Life in a Bucket - The Importance of Making a Bucket List

Have you ever thought about achieving a certain milestone that could make your life worth living? When was the last time you set yourself a goal, big or small, and strived hard to achieve it? A vast majority of people (professionals, housewives, old citizens, teenagers and even kids) live a rather aimless life. They want to do something big in life, but they are not really sure what that thing could be. With dreamy eyes they look at people who have achieved something good in life. The reality is that we always have some goals as per our likes, needs and caliber. To fulfill these goals is entirely up to us.

If you have a habit of creating a list before going to shopping, you can have a higher success rate of getting the things right instead of people who rely on their memory. Use this concept in general life - make a list of things you want to do in life and then work accordingly to live a more fulfilling life. At the end of your journey, you may find a couple of things that you have not achieved, but still, there would be many medals on your coat. This is the entire concept behind creating a bucket list.

How to Start Your Own Bucket List

Some people may be under the impression that bucket lists are for older people (thanks in part to the movie The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman). But this couldn't be further from the truth. Anyone of any age can start creating a bucket list. In fact, the younger a person is when they create their list, the more likely it is they'll have more time to accomplish the things on their list.

So, ready to start the bucket list that could change your life, but not sure how to go about it? Here are some ideas to help get you started:

1. What simple things have you always wanted to try?

2. What have you always wanted to learn? Languages? Dances? Any particular recipes?

3. Which places would you most like to visit on vacation?

4. What sports/activities/hobbies have you always wanted try and just haven't?

5. What major sporting events do you enjoy? How about experiencing that in person?

6. Have you ever wanted to do anything extreme?

7. Are the any celebrities in particular that you'd like to meet?

A Charity Race Night Makes a Great Fundraiser - All Your Questions Answered

Q. I've heard about Charity Race Nights but I don't know anything about horseracing.

A. Don't worry you don't have to book the local racecourse! The races are on a DVD which you project onto a large screen at your venue. There are lots of companies who can supply you with absolutely everything you need ( and offer you a lot you don't! ) to run a successful charity race night.

Q. What else will we need?

A. Race nights work well around a simple charity dinner or buffet. If appropriate a bar also helps to create the party mood. The more swish and professional you can make your evening the better it will run and the more money you will make so try to make a real evening of it.
This is one of those fundraisers that really needs a great Master of Ceremonies. This is not a role for Shrinking Violets! Finding the right person (someone with a bit of blarney, who knows how to fundraise) for this role can really help your evening along and bring in extra cash.

You can also dress up the rest of your volunteers as racegoers, jockeys, bookmakers etc. Anything that adds to the fun of the evening.

Q. How will we make money?

A. Advertise your race night well in advance and sell tickets. Try to cover your costs on the tickets but don't forget that you will also be making money during the evening.

The companies supplying you should be able to give you a reasonable estimate on takings so do your maths.

A good fun night out with friends and a meal is worth paying a bit for.

Stepping Up the Pace - Tips For Manchester 10K and Race For Life

Stepping Up the Pace - well are you?

Manchester is bracing itself with excitement for this years Race for Life and BUPA Manchester 10k race, when many of you will be dusting off the running gear that hasn't seen the light of day for some months. Sound familiar? If so, it's time to take action.

THE TRAINING PLAN

Follow a well-rounded training program that incorporates speed, long runs, and adequate recovery. Firstly, start increasing your mileage. Once you have established your natural running pace, you can introduce some additional training methods to improve performance:

Intervals- run fast paced laps with short rest periods. For example, on a 400m circuit complete 6-8 efforts with 1 minute recovery between each effort.

Fartlek- this incorporates bursts of speed. For example, during a two-mile run, include a half mile jog, then double your speed for three minutes, jog a little more, then run hard for one minute, and repeat.

Hills- Find a hilly run and complete repetitions on inclines, with jogging or walking recoveries.

Review training plans on Runners World or Cancer research web sites; however, use them as examples rather than rigid schedules. Be flexible and listen to your body.

MINIMISING OVER-TRAINING AND INJURY

Adding speed workouts into an established regime can result in over-training and risk injury. Ensure the following:

Ensure mileage increases do not exceed 10% a week.
Decrease mileage when increasing intensity
Never increase mileage and intensity together
Alternate easy training days with harder training days
Use cross-training (different exercise) for relative rest on easy days
Incorporate rest days

The problem lies in determining which of the thousands of charity organizations are going to distribute the donations most responsibly. When you donate to a charity, you want to be assured that your money is used wisely and judiciously in support of your cause. Here we have a few tips on finding the best charity organizations.

Why You Should Get Involved in Voluntary Charity Work at Hospitals

There are many reasons why people decide to get involved in voluntary charity work with a hospital in their local area. In the first place, performing hospital volunteer work is certainly a cause that is worthy of a volunteer's time. The services that such volunteers provide are not only needed and appreciated by adult patients, but there is also a need for those who wish to do volunteer work with children, as they are in need of receiving compassionate and attentive care as well.

In most instances, hospital patients feel somewhat trapped when they have to be in a hospital, and add to that the stress of dealing with their injury or illness. In such situations, these patients really appreciate the company and attentive assistance that community volunteer work participants are able to provide for them.

There are many volunteers who say that their favorite form of voluntary charity work involves working with children who are stuck in drab and dull hospital rooms. They find it particularly gratifying to bring a smile to a sick child and help to make their day brighter.
